Workshops

Four hands-on workshops a year, 1½ days each. Day 1 is skills stations. Day 2 is a half day of simulation and assessment.

They’re run with a partner institution and booked separately from the online course. Dates, venues and fees are still to be announced.

We’ve run workshops twice a year since 2022.

Workshop 1 · planned for March 2027, after Modules 1–3

Collapse, nutrition and breathing

Day 1: skills stations

  • IV catheter placement

  • Fluid bolus set-up

  • Basic CPR

  • Oxygen delivery and nasal prongs

  • Nasogastric tube placement

  • Thoracocentesis on a model

Day 2 (half day): simulation and assessment
Collapsed dog in shock; cat in respiratory distress.

Workshop 2 · planned for June 2027, after Modules 4–7

Seizures, trauma and the acute abdomen

Day 1: skills stations

  • Anticonvulsants without IV access

  • AFAST

  • Wound lavage and bandaging

  • Robert Jones bandage

  • Pain scoring

  • Male cat urinary catheter

  • Orogastric tube

Day 2 (half day): simulation and assessment
Road traffic accident; blocked cat.

Workshop 3 · planned for September 2027, after Modules 6 and 8–10

Toxins, kidneys and blood

Day 1: skills stations

  • Decontamination

  • 20-minute whole blood clotting test

  • Urine specific gravity and urine output

  • PCV/TS and blood smear

  • Saline agglutination

  • Blood typing and transfusion set-up

Day 2 (half day): simulation and assessment
Snakebite; transfusion reaction.

Workshop 4 · planned for November 2027, after Modules 11–12

Liver, gut and nursing

Day 1: skills stations

  • Basic liver and gallbladder ultrasound

  • Isolation and barrier nursing

  • Potassium supplementation chart

  • Recumbent patient care

  • CPR refresher

Day 2 (half day): simulation and assessment
Parvo puppy; mixed emergency scenario, with the final practical assessment.
